2.4 Activity 2: Completing the Language Biography

Intercultural Encounters
Interculturality is the ability of people from different cultures to interact and use authentic language in a way that demonstrates knowledge of other cultures. When one is open-minded, interested, and curious about the culture of another person, that, too, is interculturality. Interculturality is not an inherent ability but is developed over time and through practice. By evaluating feelings, thoughts, perceptions, and reactions to intercultural experiences, the learner builds this ability.

In the following handouts, you will reflect on experiences with others of different cultures. Reflection helps students analyze and learn from each experience. Intercultural experiences provide the most meaningful opportunities for developing language capacity.
